NANDO RODRIGUES

CAREER

Born in Campo Grande, MS, Nando Rodrigues moved to Rio de Janeiro at the age of 17 to invest in his acting career. Choosing the surname Rodrigues is a tribute to his grandfather, whom he considers an idol. As soon as he joined Rede Globo, Nando had to give up the name Fernando Bastos because there was already an actor registered with that name, which was why he also chose to use his childhood nickname.

His passion for an acting career began by chance. It all started when, during a break from a judo class, at the school where Oswaldo Tognini studied, Nando went to watch his friend's theater class with teacher Andrea Freire. The boy, 14 years old at the time, was called by the teacher to do an improvisation exercise and, as he likes to say, it was "love at first sight".

In Rio, he took courses and workshops to improve himself, as well as theater plays. He graduated from the CAL theater course (Casa de Artes de Laranjeiras) in 2006. During the course, Nando acted in some shows, including The Process, by Franz Kafka, Antigone, by Sófocles, Meu Destino é Pecar, by Nelson Rodrigues.

Nando Rodrigues' first appearance on TV was in 2009, on SBT, in the cast of the first phase of the soap opera Vend-se um Véu de Noiva, by Janete Clair, adapted by Íris Abravanel. In the plot he played Rubens Baronese, who would later be played by Zé Carlos Machado. In 2010, the actor had his first contact with a work by the author Manoel Carlos, in a quick participation in the soap opera Viver a Vida, now on Rede Globo.

The following year, he gave life to the character Botija, in the soap opera Malhação. In 2012, he participated in the soap opera Quem Beijo, by Miguel Falabella, and ended up gaining a permanent character in the plot, Luciano.

In 2013 he acted in his first feature film, in the film Olhar de Nise, which deals with the life story of the renowned psychiatrist Nise da Silveira (Glória Pires), who fought for years against asylums, and against "conventional" treatment for people with psychiatric problems.

In the same year, Nando was called to participate in a test for the soap opera Em Família, also by author Manoel Carlos, and directed by Jayme Monjardim, on Rede Globo. In 2014, Nando gave life to the character Virgílio, protagonist of the second phase of Maneco's last soap opera. At the end of 2014, Nando played the swimmer Ricardo, in the soap opera Alto Astral, a soap opera by Daniel Ortiz that premiered in November 2014 on Rede Globo.
